Rich Miami residents looking for a getaway now have the opportunity to invest in an extraordinary private island located just off Key Largo, in the Florida Keys. Pumpkin Key, a 26-acre island which includes a three-bedroom house and a private marina that is able to accommodate 20 boats, or at least one mega yacht, has been put up for sale.

According to Daily Mail, the Pumpkin Island has been listed for $110 million (€80.4 million), making it 2014’s priciest new listing.

Lying less than a 50-minute boat ride from Miami, Florida, and just ten minutes by helicopter to the city's infamous South Beach, the peaceful paradise offers the opportunity for privacy without isolation.

In addition to the 5,000-square-foot (465-square-meter) main home, the property also features tennis courts, a swimming pool, two caretaker's cottages, and a boat captain's apartment. The property is marketed as a potential family home, but with the 12 large bay front lots on it, any ambitious billionaire should see its great potential for development.

Moreover, the tennis courts at the center of the property also serve as a helipad, and golf cart paths circle the island. Another aspect that may attract potential buyers is the amazing scenery and wildlife, both night and day.

Russell Post from Sotheby’s International Realty says, “Pumpkin Key represents one of the most exceptional opportunities in real estate today, anywhere in the world. From creating a family compound or a private club-within-a-club within Ocean Reef, the possibilities are endless.”

“Pumpkin Key offers the unique opportunity for privacy, while still being part of the Ocean Reef community, and just a quick ten minute helicopter ride or fifty minute boat trip to Miami.”

The chunk of paradise is part of the Ocean Reef community, a private gated club, so the new owner will also have access to its amenities, including a spa, salon, dining and shopping, a big marina, golf, tennis, arts events, and so on.

Currently, the key is owned by Jane Berry, the widow of George A. Berry, a Chicago businessman who died in 2010.

Real estate news site The Real Deal says that Pumpkin Key is now competing with a $130 million (€95 million) estate in Greenwich, Connecticut, for the title of US’s priciest residential listing. And, given that that property was first put on sale in May 2013, Pumpkin Key can be considered the priciest new property to list in 2014.
