Whitney Houston has set out to break her many years-long musical silence by attending the first listening party in London the other night, reports in the British media say. Looking better and more in control than she has in years, the diva introduced her first studio material in seven years, “I Look to You,” and had the select audience literally eating out the palm of her hand once the listening party was over.

Although tracks off the album, set for a September release, have already leaked to the Internet and subsequently failed to get the kind of reaction from fans Houston’s staff might have expected, the listening party was hit, it is being said. The singer’s London appearance was more than just a contractual responsibility she agreed to fulfill or stand having to pay penalties otherwise, several media outlets point out: it was also a statement that she was back and she meant serious business this time.

Decked in a fabulous black mac, Whitney Houston was all smiles the moment she got out of the car. Her stride seemed to exude confidence, while her overall appearance was strikingly different from how fans got to see her in recent years. Speaking of fans, of which the singer has more than plenty, it is for them that Houston’s appearance was more important, since it sent them the message that she was, above all, glad to be back on the scene, it is further being pinpointed in the media.

Reports in the British media, but also back in the US, say that Whitney’s new music was received with a standing ovation. Gossip blogger Perez Hilton also claims the same, adding that fans who have waited for so long for something new from the singer will certainly see the waiting was well worth the while. Whitney Houston’s “I Look to You” will be a mind-blowing, dazzling, truly worthy of the title comeback, Perez shares in more or less words.

Music mogul Clive Davis and Whitney’s biggest supporter throughout the years also promises the same kind of experience from the album. “The same way her debut album took a while to put together, you just don’t do it by going into a computer. You wait for the material to justify a new album. Pretty much, it’s come in. You wait for the great songs to be written. The great hits Whitney has given to the public for so many years – you keep encouraging and setting the bar. R. Kelly and Whitney just went into the studio with a great song called ‘I Look to You.’” Davis was saying earlier this year as to what took Houston so long to come up with a new album, and what fans were to expect from it.
