At the end of July, Canadian mobile phone maker BlackBerry officially released the BlackBerry Messenger for all owners of Windows Phone devices out there in a beta version, after offering it to lucky few as part of a private beta test.

Earlier this week, this private beta flavor of the application received an update, aimed at addressing some of the many issues that the mobile client still has.

Considering the fact that BBM for Windows Phone is only in a beta version for the time being, it’s no wonder that users are still experiencing bugs, that’s for sure.

However, BlackBerry appears set to fix them, although only for the private beta variant at the moment, at least this is what the new BBM version 100.0.0.23 shows.

“Since the last beta build, we’ve focused on quality improvements and fixed many of the issues that you’ve raised to us,” BlackBerry announced.

One of the problems addressed in this update is related to contacts losing their avatars, while another one concerns the fact that Country and Time do not always show up.

The new app iteration also resolves issues with toast message for invite when the app signing in, and with Contacts / Chats / Feeds screens slow to reappear when returning from another screen.

Emoticons should render properly in the new application flavor, and users will also enjoy a variety of localization improvements, the changelog published by nokiarevolution reveals.

Some other improvements were also included in the mobile client, among which the option to add a new contact in person with the barcode or using the suggested contacts feature.

Moreover, users will also be able to easily start a group after adding a few contacts, chat with them and share photos, and follow changes using the Feeds panel. Moreover, they will be able to update their avatars, so that contacts have something to view in their Feeds too.

The public beta version of BBM for Windows Phone already allows users to create groups, share photos, or follow Feeds, though we assume that some more features will be included in the app soon, as it still does not offer Voice or Video calling capabilities.

Those of you who have enrolled in the Windows Phone private beta testing should check the app for an update. Those who haven’t can still enjoy the public variant of BBM, which is available for download in the Windows Phone Store today (with support for both Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows Phone 8 devices).
