Others reported online ordering problems

Wireless carrier AT&T and Apple are having more headaches following the pre-order availability of the new iPhone 4. Last week, reports emerged on a security breach on AT&T's website that led to the compromising of personal emails of some of the carrier's iPad users, and it seems that the security problems continue. Only yesterday did Apple and AT&T kicked off the pre-orders of iPhone 4, and customers already report security issues related to placing orders for the device.

The Apple iPhone 4 is set to become available for purchase on June 24, and those US users interested in securing a unit in advance can head over to AT&T or Apple to do so. However, it seems that a series of technical issues prevented on Tuesday some of the carrier's users from ordering the device from AT&T's or Apple's website.

On top of that, some customers complained about a series of privacy issues with their accounts, a recent article from Reuters states. “We've received reports of customers inadvertently seeing (other customers') account information during the iPhone 4 purchasing process,” AT&T spokesman Mark Siegel already confirmed. However, it seems that the carrier does not know for sure what information customers were able to see on other people's accounts, as the company was not able to replicate the issue.

According to Siegel, there are little chances that customers managed to see other people's social security numbers, credit card data or call records. The wireless carrier is still investigating the issue. As for the problems some said they encountered when trying to order the device, Reuters says that the following message was received by them: “There was a problem with your request. We're sorry, but we are experiencing a system error that prevents us from completing your request.”

The iPhone 4 marked a huge success during the first day of pre-order availability, and shipments of the device were pushed back to July 2 for those who did not place an order on Tuesday. “Because of the incredible interest in iPhone 4, today was the busiest online sales day in AT&T history,” AT&T stated. Some of the users who failed to order the device online rushed to AT&T's stores to make the move, and had to wait in line to do so.
