O.J. Simpson is hopeful that he’ll be out of prison soon, telling the New York Post through “inside sources” that he’s thinking of embarking on a college speaking tour once he’s out. He also explains why he’s gained so much weight since last seen in public.

Simpson, who was acquitted of the murder of his wife and her friend in one of the most watched public trials of all times, is now serving time for kidnapping and robbery, after a 2008 attempt to rob a sports memorabilia dealer went sour.

His most recent appearance in court has landed him in the headlines again for a variety of reasons, one of them being the fact that he’s clearly overweight.

The photo attached to this article was snapped on the occasion.

To the Post, via the inside prison source, Simpson argues that he’s not overweight: he’s just bulked up because he was trying to build muscle but did not get appropriate nutrition behind bars.

“I gained weight eating all those beans, but just because I can’t get enough fruits and vegetables,” the friend says he says.

“My family’s been bugging me to stop with the beans,” Simpson reportedly explains.

He says he buys the cans of beans from the prison commissary in the hope that they will make do, because he’s not getting his greens.

The Post also quotes Simpson as bragging about wanting to go on the road with his side of the story of the “trial of the century” and how he’s still a victim of racism.

The friend tells the publication Simpson said he knew he’d be convicted in the 2008 case for the simple reason that he was black and the jury was from Nevada.

“I feel like I’m back in the ’50s – a black man in a white justice system. I looked into their eyes and I knew they would convict me,” he says.

As the Post notes, these comments are bound to infuriate and sadden the families of the victims he is still believed (by many) to have killed in the most brutal fashion.
