Gmail's Priority Inbox has been a real time-saver ever since it was introduced. By helping users focus on the emails that are actually important, they are free to get on with their work rather than shift through their messages.

This is even more important on the go, where the time constraints are bigger. So you'll be glad to hear that the mobile version of the Gmail website now finally supports the Priority Inbox.

"Priority Inbox helps combat information overload by automatically identifying your important messages so you can focus on those first. Until today it was only available on the desktop and Android devices," Nathan Bullock, a Software Engineer at Google, wrote.

"Now, once you set up Priority Inbox in the desktop version of Gmail, you’ll see Priority Inbox sections when you visit gmail.com from your phone’s browser and click on the ‘Menu’ screen," he explained.

Priority Inbox debuted in Gmail last summer. It promised to help users spend less time in their email inboxes, by surfacing the emails that were actually relevant to them.

The problem is obvious to anyone that gets more than a few dozens of emails each day and it was hardly the first time someone had tried to do tackle it.

But Google manage to get it right, at least in the sense that, on average, users with Priority Inbox spend less time in Gmail and more time reading messages that have been labeled as important.

Of course, figuring out what is relevant and what isn't on an individual level is no easy task and involves a couple of smart algorithms. Google explained how the system works in a research paper.

After Priority Inbox proved a great addition to the desktop version of Gmail, Google rolled out an updated Gmail app for Android which incorporated the feature. But if you are using an iPhone or simply don't like the app version, you can now get the benefits of Priority Inbox in any mobile browser capable of rendering HTML5 content.
