In a recent interview with Billboard, Prince spoke ill of pop culture icon Madonna and the Maroon 5 band, criticizing their need for attention and lack of originality.

Where Madonna is concerned, the artist currently known as Prince complains about how "it was always about Madonna," back in the day.

"She was getting paid, but at the same time we were selling more records and selling out concerts on multiple nights," he adds, which really implies that their collaboration didn't exactly ruin him.

The pair dated briefly in 1985, and Madonna didn't exactly hold him dear to her heart either, US Magazine details.

"He was just sipping tea, very daintily. I have this theory about people who don't eat. They annoy me," she said in 1994.

Prince also spoke about Maroon 5 covering his tune "Kiss" in 2012, for their Overexposed record.

"Why do we need to hear another cover of a song someone else did?" [...] Art is about building a new foundation, not just laying something on top of what's already there," he notes.
