It’s a rare thing for Prince to give a television interview, but it’s perhaps even rarer for him to sport a new hairdo. The iconic singer dropped by The View the other day to promote a charity, but his hair managed to get most of the attention.

Dressed in yellow flares with matching yellow high-heeled boots, and rocking a pair of fierce, rounded shades, Prince was also sporting a brand new mini afro, as the video below will confirm.

He stayed silent for most part of the segment, even prompting a question from Barbara Walters on whether he was “shy.”

“I’m just that way around you,” Prince replied in his delicate voice, as Walters further noted the difference between Prince on stage and Prince in real life: one is outgoing and very loud, while the other is soft-spoken and very private.

Also on the show, Prince gave his two cents on social media and the advent of the new type of artist who uses it to promote music (Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber), saying simply “different strokes for different folks.”

He spoke about his vault of unreleased songs and how “one day someone will release them,” but not him because he was too focused on writing new stuff.

As interesting as the interview was, it was Prince’s hair that instantly became a trending topic on Twitter, the same social networking website that he doesn’t use because he’s too busy making music.

“But it was the Purple One's new hairdo that had Twitter buzzing, with gossip reporter Jawn Murray tweeting ‘the afro he is wearing is so much more entertaining than this interview’,” TwinCities reports.

TMZ, on the other hand, notes that, while it was clear that Prince was sporting a new ‘do, it never came up during the interview, even though the girls on The View are known to ask questions about this type of thing.
