Prince is outrageous and controversial. Prince is also an icon most of the artists today (meaning, those singers who really have the guts and who deserve to be referred to by this term) look up to and try to emulate in their music. He is, without a single trace of doubt, the ultimate funk and rock symbol. For that, we should all respect him, even if we don't necessarily like his music.
But here is yet another reason for which Prince deserves our respect: he has taken the common practice of dissing on Paris Hilton and turned into an official custom. I mean, I'm actually hoping they also set up Olympics for this! Let me explain: various media magazines report that Paris Hilton was at one of Prince's concerts in Las Vegas a couple of days ago and, naturally, she was spotted by the singer and asked to come on stage.
Apparently, Prince saw Paris in the audience (obviously, it would be pretty hard not to see Paris, no matter where she would be) and he asked her to join him. A 'delighted' heiress quickly climbed the steps and got on the stage only to be publicly humiliated. Hi hi! Members of the audience told the media that Prince said loud and clear into the mic: 'Let's see if she can really sing'. When Miss Hilton (you know, the 'singer' who even released an album last summer!) heard this, she stormed off the stage and left the club after two more songs. Oh, d'ya think he broke her little artist's heart?
Let's think things through for a second: if Paris were smart (which is obviously not the case, unless she gets a brain transplant), she would have seen that what Prince was doing was actually giving her a chance to prove herself. In case you didn't know, last summer, several voices were heard saying that Paris' entire album was done with the help of somebody else, an unknown and unsigned singer, and that the voice on the tracks wasn't hers. So, this would have been, like, the perfect opportunity to show the world that she is really good at something. Or maybe she isn't and she knows it and that's why she refused to lend her voice to one of Prince's tracks.
Either way, Paris was shown, once again, which is her rightful place in this world. Prince can't put up a fight with a cat if he wanted to (not that there's reason for him to be violent to animals) but he is suddenly my new hero.
