Prince Needs Double Hip Replacement, Is Popping Pills

Prince made a rare public appearance the other night at the Apollo Theater’s 75th anniversary celebration to toast Patti LaBelle. The singer was seen walking with the help of a (very stylish) cane, which has prompted speculation that his older hip problems have returned. In fact, his condition has deteriorated so much that he now needs double hip replacement, a report on Showbiz 411 says.

According to Roger Friedman of Showbiz 411, Prince’s condition has deteriorated to the extreme, with sources whispering that he’s actually living more on painkillers, since he couldn’t possibly stand the pain otherwise. Word of the singer’s affection first got out in the media in 2005, when it became clear he needed hip replacement surgery, a procedure he turned down because he’s a Jehovah’s Witness and, apparently, does not believe in blood transfusions.

“He’s in a lot of pain. He’s popping pain killers and hoping it will all go away.” an unnamed but reportedly close source tells Friedman. While reports claimed that the diminutive star agreed to “secret surgery” either in 2007 or 2008, these recent comments would seem to indicate that he did not. Quite on the contrary, Prince apparently chose to ignore the debilitating condition, which only made it worse, so much so that he’s reportedly this close to resorting to a wheelchair to move from one place to another because of the pain he has to endure.

“The real buzz on Prince is that his much reported hip problems of the past have now turned into need for a double hip replacement. Unfortunately, thanks to his practice as a Jehovah’s Witness, Prince still refuses surgery. JW’s don’t believe in blood transfusions. Now the diminutive R&B star is walking with a diamond-studded stick to keep him upright. It’s the same stick I saw him with two nights ago at a post-Tony Awards bash. I’m sure he’d rather have a Raspberry beret or a little red Corvette, but for now Prince is stuck with the stick.” Friedman writes, while also giving in to the obvious joke of “He’s so hip he needs two new ones.”

As of now, camp Prince has made no comment on the above report on the singer’s health. Should any change occur, rest assured that you’ll find out about it here.

Many Jehovah's Witnesses have had hip replacement surgeries. You can have bloodless surgery if you have the right team of doctors providing treatment. There are many hospitals in the US offering bloodless surgerical options. If Prince wanted to have surgery he could find a way to without doing anything to offend his personal religious beliefs. This is a horrible report. I hope no one reads this. It was written based on a purely speculative unproven uneducated (about religion or medicine) source and you should be ashamed for passing on crap like this as entertainment news.

Hello Angie. See here: http://www.showbiz411.com/prince-patti-labelle-apollo, for the original report, here: http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2009/06/09/afternoon-roundup-adam-lambert-is-gay-prince-needs-new-hips/, here: http://perezhilton.com/2009-06-09-get-hip-prince-or-perhaps-two, or do a Google search to see the report is the same everywhere. Whether bloodless surgery is an option or not the report does not say, so it was only natural I did not include it either. Whether the report is “crap passed for entertainment news” is perhaps a question of how one looks at the matter. Thank you for your comment.

"Word of the singer’s affection first got out in the media in 2005..."

the word is 'affliction'.

JWs change their minds about medical treatments ALL THE TIME. They used to think transplants were wrong, too.

Do you want to die from this?

Only to have them come out in 10 years and say, 'Oh, we just didn't know. We have 'new light' now'

What kind of a God wants you to die when there's no reason for you to die???

(Acts 15:20)" . . .but to write them to ABSTAIN from things polluted by idols and from fornication and from what is strangled AND FROM BLOOD..." (Caps mine)

Jehovah's Witnesses do not change their minds about medical treatment - medical treatment improves in ways that do not conflict with God's laws. 10, 15, 20 years ago there were options not available for certain proceedures that are now and with a clear conscious we as Jehovah's Witnesses take advantage of the improved quality of healthcare available today. see http://wiki.noblood.org/PBS_documentary_Knocking_-_Jehovah's_Witnesses_and_Blood
"Medical studies have demonstrated the therapeutic benefits of blood-conservation strategies, prompting some doctors and surgeons to recommend the use of less or no blood for all their patients."

"Dr. Caplan remarks that medical science improved because of its willingness to accommodate the Witnesses."

"In pursuing their own rights, Jehovah’s Witnesses played a crucial role in securing for all adults the right to choose treatment options and to refuse certain types of medical care."

This last one sounds alot like what the United States founding fathers had in mind - Religious freedom
