Prince Harry was involved yesterday in a high-speed car crash on the streets of London, as he was heading out to the Invictus Games. The Prince was not in any of the two vehicles involved in the crash, but there was panic for a moment that the crash was part of a terrorist attack.

The Daily Mail reports that the Prince was heading out to the Invictus Games in a convoy made up of two blacked out Range Rovers surrounded by police outriders on motorcycles. At a certain point, one of the outriders violently crashed into a taxi, a white Toyota Prius.

The crash occurred at high speed, projecting the policeman several meters from the crash, and leaving the driver of the car injured in the front seat between deployed airbags. The Prince's car sped through the wreckage at first, fearing an ambush, but soon stopped to give assistance when his bodyguards realized it was only a traffic accident.

The crash was so serious, that the driver of the car had to be cut free by firefighters. He was later taken to the hospital while still unconscious, along with the police officer.

One witness to the event claimed that the Prince never left the car, probably a safety measure, but he was seen looking worried at the aftermath of the accident from the back seat of the car. He kept looking over his shoulder and constantly kept putting his head into his palms, “concern etched on his face.”

Both the driver and the policeman escaped with their lives

The press later revealed that the policeman from the Special Escort Group was discharged from the hospital and that the driver of the taxi was in a “stable” condition, without any life-threatening injuries.

A cyclist who saw the entire incident unfold said that the Prince's convoy was traveling at an “incredibly high speed.” He said that “I decided to speed up to see if I could catch up with them. I really wanted to know who it was. There was debris everywhere, Steam coming out of the car bonnet. It was carnage.”

The policeman was riding his bike on the wrong side of the street

Footage of the incident shows that the taxi was just turning into the intersection and that the police motorcycle driver was riding very fast on the wrong side of the street. At the time of the crash, he had his police lights on but not the siren too.

A source close to the Prince said that he “was pleased the officers were able to stop and administer important immediate first aid.” He was later seen at the Invictus Games and he didn't seem to have suffered any injury.
