Canadian wireless carrier Rogers is getting ready for the release of a new Sony smartphone on its network, namely the Xperia ion that already landed in the United States at AT&T.

No official word on when the handset might become available for purchase through the wireless carrier has emerged so far, yet rumor has it that it should not be too long before that happens.

A recently leaked internal doc from Rogers (available courtesy of MobileSyrup) shows that the new device will land on its shelves with a price tag of $49.99 attached to it with the signing of a 3-year contract agreement.

Users will also be able to grab the device for $549.99 outright, the doc shows.

The smartphone will arrive with a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, a 12-megapixel photo snapper, support for LTE connectivity, and Google’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform on board (though it should taste Ice Cream Sandwich soon).
