A couple of design documents have apparently leaked online from the new Prey 2 project that's currently in development at Arkane Studios, the developer of the classic Dishonored, confirming that it's now envisioned as a spiritual successor to System Shock 2.

The original Prey game was a pretty great shooter that focused on Native American protagonist Tommy who had to explore an alien ship that crash landed on his tribe's reservation. It impressed quite a few fans all over the world and eventually the franchise was acquired by publisher Bethesda, which tasked developer Human Head to create a new game called Prey 2.

The game was presented to the world a few years ago as a reimagining of the series, focusing on one of Tommy's friends who became a bounty hunter working for the aliens throughout the galaxy.

However, it seems that the project didn't work out and Bethesda allgedly gave the Prey 2 project to Arkane Studios, which already proved its worth with Dishonored. No other details were mentioned since then, but now a few massive leaks have surfaced.

More specifically, two design documents have appeared via AGB, containing story pitches and design ideas for the new Prey 2, which is now being envisioned by Arkane as a spiritual successor to System Shock 2.

The title will be a role-playing game with first-person shooter elements, but like in System Shock 2, you'll be able to hack all sorts of things, from security cameras to computers, robots, turrets and more. The player can improve his abilities through cyber modules and spend nanites at vending machines for extra items.

Combat focuses on a combination of weapons, such as melee and ranged ones, as well as psionic powers to pacify and control enemies, invert gravity, or pull and throw opponents. Other psionic abilities can also include a chameleon camouflage system or sticking to walls.

Stealth and survival are also important in the game, not to mention crafting new items and improving existing ones.

Prey 2 encourages repeated playthroughs through dynamic levels and objectives, not to mention important choices that affect the story and the conclusion.

In terms of actual story, there are four pitches made by Arkane, involving Danielle Sho (a clear reference to System Shock's SHODAN) who helps the player uncover that he's actually in a research station build on top of the alien ship from the first Prey. One variation also includes finding Sho already transformed into an AI on a remove island.

As of yet, neither Bethesda nor Arkane have commented on the leaks, which say that Prey 2 is going to debut for PC, PS4, and Xbox One in fall of 2016.
