He’s the first US president to learn how to code

Barack Obama’s charismatic leadership again deserves all the praises, as the President of the United States today met with students at the “Hour of Code” event at the White House and even wrote his very own line of code in JavaScript.

And before starting worrying that Obama could leave Washington for Redmond or Mountain View, that’s not case and Obama himself admitted that coding is as easy as it seems.

What he did on a laptop, however, was to write a line of JavaScript and make Elsa, the character from the move Frozen, to show up and draw a simple square on the screen. Nothing too exciting, but as the old saying goes, a small step for man, a giant step for Obama.

First president to code

If there’s something that really makes Obama special, it’s the charisma that helps him pretty much everywhere he goes.

And now that he wrote his first line of code, he officially became the first United States President to do this, which kind of makes him special. The next president will have to write at least two lines of code to be cooler. And God knows that’s insanely difficult.

Of course, Obama can’t compete yet with the supreme leader of North Korean Jim Kong-un, who himself invented the computer and allowed the press to take a few photos showing him working on a limited-edition model sporting a gigantic red button probably doing nothing.

But getting back to Obama and switching to a more serious tone, the President of the United States is one of those who are supporting the young generation and their growing appetite for technology, saying during his interview that youths need to be backed in their attempt to improve their skills in the IT industry. Because America needs them, that is.

“We're starting too late when it comes to making sure that our young people are familiar not only with how to play a video game, but how to create a video game. One of the great things about America is that we invent and make stuff, not just use it,” he said in a public interview.

And the “Hour of Code” event is the living proof that the White House does support such efforts, as this campaign takes places all over the world and tries to attract more teens and kids to improve their coding skills. This would obviously help IT giants discover new talents and help young people make their first steps in this side of the industry.
