Obama gets emotional while thanking staff for getting him re-elected

After Barack Obama was re-elected President of the United States, he took some time off politics to thank his staff for the support they’d given him throughout the campaign. Above is the video.

Obama started by recalling his start in politics and his dreams of, one day, getting to actually make a difference for the better.

He went on to say that his team didn’t just remind him of himself: they were actually better, more efficient and with a bigger heart, thus more likely to succeed, whichever path they chose in life.

It was precisely at this point (at around the 3:30 mark in the video above) that the President became overcome with genuine emotion and had tears trickling down his face.

As Mashable says, regardless of your political allegiance, this is the closest you’re ever going to get to a President, stripped as he is of all the gloss, the diplomatic rigidity and the larger than life persona built for him by his team.

The President, it turns out, is just as human as the rest of us.
