Three major updates due out for July 11

It is already well known that July 11 will mark the day Apple launches its iPhone 3G. While some are disappointed in the tariffs charged in their territories, folks are generally anxious to grab the new device. However, iPhone 3G isn't by far the only thing you'll be upgrading to on July 11.

The first thing you'll need to do (as an existing iPhone owner) is upgrade to iPhone software 2.0. The new version of the iPhone OS adds a slew of new features, including Microsoft Exchange support, the App Store and more. While iPhone owners are granted the update for free, iPod touch users will have to pay a premium $9.99 to upgrade.

However, just as Apple notes in the original iPhone 3G press release, "iPhone 2.0 software will be available on July 11 as a free software update via iTunes 7.7 (or later) for all iPhone customers." Thus, the second update you'll need to perform is for iTunes. The new version of Apple's digital media player application is specifically mentioned as a requirement for MobileMe as well - another one of Apple's upcoming services once the iPhone 3G is out.

However, iPhone 3G isn't the only reason all these major updates are seemingly hitting July 11 (if not before): "Some of Apple's new products which are due in early July suggest we'll see two updates by then, one for Mac OS X and another for iTunes," MacRumors was reporting soon after Apple's WWDC '08 had begun. According to MobileMe's terms of service, users will need to have the latest version of Apple's media player application - iTunes 7.7 - ALONG with Mac OS X 10.5.4, the latter making the third major update for Mac users on July 11.

All this being said, we can all look forward to an update-full mid July.
