Prepare to Hunt Dragons on Your DS

- Platform action game will ship soon

By: Andrei Dumitrescu, Games Editor

Dragon Hunters is an animated series, produced by French company Futurikon, that chronicles the adventures of Lian-Chu and Gwizdo, two young dragon hunters. The universe in which the life is made up of floating land masses separated by gaping voids. Travel is restricted to airships and most of the people are terrorized, at one point in their lives, by menacing creatures which are collectively referred to as dragons. Of course, the heroes end up slaying all of the creatures, usually in exchange for a generous money reward.

Lian-Chu is the real dragon slayer, a well-built man with a huge sword,
while Gwizdo is the wheeler dealer of the group, the guy that negotiates payment and hides when the dragons come. The two also have a pet dragon, Hector, that functions mostly as a dog, and an airship they use in their travels.

The upcoming Nintendo DS game is to be published by Playlogic Entertainment and is in development by engine Software, a company that has a solid reputation in mobile gaming.

The genre is set to platform action adventure, which means that most of the challenge will come from navigating the environments. The developers say they added an extra layer of challenge by creating areas of the game where gravity shifts, allowing characters to walk on walls or on the ceiling to complete their tasks.

Apart from the platform action, the player can expect a variety of puzzles that need to be solved and some real tough boss battle, which will feature dragons from the cartoon show. To defeat them, the player will need to employ special items and special moves that he can obtain during the game.

The game is timed for release in April 2008, a few weeks after the theatrical release of the Dragon Hunters movie, a full-length computer-generated adventure that features voice acting from Forrest Whitaker.
