Reloaded Studios, which is made up of people that have worked with the most important South Korean game studios, are now talking about their first project, called The Day, a new MMO which will play with time travel.
The backstory is pretty interesting. As of 2150, Earth is ruled by a tyrannical and very 1984 United World Government, which
controls every aspect of people's lives. Of course there are also resistance movements, but they are on the brink of defeat. That is until a scientific experiment goes wrong and begins to open up portals that go back in the past, between 1400 and 1700. The resistance movement will use them to escape, regroup and then fight the oppressive World Government.
The result is a three way war. One resistance movement is the Underground Rebellion, made up of "normal" humans and failed genetic experiments, while the Minority Party is a radical wing of the ruling faction which aims to further employ genetic modification to create new human strains. These two don't like each other very much and they also do not like the oppressive rulers, so the
MMO will be more grounded in realm vs. realm mechanics rather than in player vs. environment mechanic like most standard MMOs.
The gameplay will be heavily influenced by time travel. To modify the present and to complete game quests and objectives, you will be required to go into the past and play against the other two factions and some NPCs that will try to prevent you from modifying time.
The Reloaded Studios guys are hoping that the game will be one of the best looking on the market, as they plan to use Crytek's
CryEngine2 middleware to bring it to life. Sure, it has some pretty steep system requirements, but it sure does look nice.
If all the concepts sound good to you, then the bad new is that the game has just been announced and it is only scheduled to release sometime during 2010.
