It seems that, nowadays, there is a tendency to merge together certain device types, but few can really be said to have developed something truly unusual, although StarTech does claim something of the sort.

Hybrid devices are definitely not news on the consumer and enterprise market, with HDDs (hybrid hard drives) being just one example.

StartTech, however, supposedly decided to combine an IT product and a certain appliance that most households enjoy the benefits of.

Basically, the new SATDOCKTOAST4 is a SATA dock that can support four 3.5 drives while acting like a toaster for breakfast pastry... or so the press release would have us all believe.

“This is may be our hardest-to-find product yet and represents a major breakthrough in the highly competitive data/pastry market,” said StarTech.com Product Manager, Avril Bobo.

“Utilising USB 3.0 and USBp means that StarTech.com is able to establish an industry leading position where breakfast and data merge in the market sphere Being able to keep an employee at his desk, working an eating, has been the Holy Grail for data management for some time now.”

The so-called hardware spec sheet that the product supposedly has include USB 3.0 support and the ability to warm pastry in under 2 minutes.

“The smaller drive bays are not suitable for full size pop-up tarts so we suggest users buy those smaller loaves of bread and toast them instead,” he added.

“Tesco’s does a nice whole grain one from the bakery section, but it’s not sliced, which is something we’re look to address with the next generation of graphics tablets that will feature a bacteria free cutting surface and built-in shrink-wrap dispenser”

All in all, as far as April Fools jokes go, one could say that, even objectively, this definitely does qualify as a very impressive one, even if only because of the fact that, ironically, such a device, if it had been real, might actually have sold very well.
