Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC is reportedly planning the release of a new handset running under Google’s Android operating system, one that would pack higher hardware specifications when compared to the HTC One M8.

The new device is reportedly featuring the codename M8 Prime and should land on shelves as a premium version of HTC’s current flagship device.

The info comes from infamous tipster @evleaks, that claims that the device might be coming soon, without offering specific info on what the smartphone might have to offer to its users.

With HTC One M8 already being one of the most powerful devices out there, we can only imagine that the new phone will be able to provide users with increased performance capabilities and with a better experience than this device.

In fact, a tweet from @HTCFamily_RU claims that the upcoming premium device would be both larger and more powerful than the HTC One M8.

The phone might feature a 5.5-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a WQHD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution, while being powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 805 APQ8084 processor.

What’s more, the yet unannounced smartphone might arrive on the market with 3GB of RAM packed inside, as well as with 16GB of internal memory.

On the back, the smartphone should feature an 18-megapixel camera, replacing the twin-sensor 4MP UltraPixel camera on the HTC One M8. A 5MP front camera will also be included on the upcoming device, rumor has it.

The phone would also sport USB 3.0 port and might run under the Android 4.4.3 KitKat OS, provided that the platform is announced before it goes official. The Sense 6.0 UI might also be present on this device.

Should this device indeed be planned with the hardware specs mentioned above, it will certainly manage to prove a great rival to some of the most popular phones out there at the moment.

While this is the first time we learn about HTC’s plans for a premium One M8 model, it would certainly not come as a surprise if the company indeed released such a device, given that Samsung has been long rumored to make a similar move with the Galaxy S5 Prime.

What remains to be seen, however, is when exactly HTC makes the new device official, and whether other handset vendors out there will decide to follow the trend with premium versions of their flagships too. Keep an eye on this space for additional info on the matter.
