Ubisoft has announced the first piece of premium downloadable content for Splinter Cell: Conviction in the form of four new maps for the game's Deniable Ops single-player or multiplayer modes and Achievements that will total 250 Points. The DLC is called "Insurgency Pack" and will be available on Thursday, the 27th of May for the Xbox 360, but also for the PC, for 10$ or 800 Microsoft Points.

The maps will be available for all Deniable Ops game modes, like Infiltration, Face Off, Hunter and Last Stand, and will feature four new locations: a dock area in San Francisco, a New Orleans cemetery, a prison in Portland and a research facility in Salt Lake City.

Up until now, the DLC for Splinter Cell: Conviction has been free for both the new and used copies of the game in an initiative named "Project Trend Buck." Players can download the new weapons and gadgets offered by Ubisoft through the in-game Extras menu or by exchanging Ubisoft tokens in the U-Play menu. Some of these items include the MP7A1 Machine Pistol, Proximity Mines or the SCAR-H assault rifle.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction is the fifth installment in Ubisoft's critically acclaimed Splinter Cell series and it was developed by Ubisoft Montreal. The game constitutes a reboot of the franchise focusing on a more fast-paced stealth gameplay, taking cues from last year's Batman: Arkham Asylum.

Sam Fisher, the series protagonist (voiced by Michael Ironside), is no longer part of the Third Echelon and is searching for his daughter's murderer. This new setting enabled the developers to create a more aggressive game, with the player being able to use a stealth approach to clear rooms of enemies and not needing to avoid them like in the previous Splinter Cell titles. While controversial, this reboot seems to have been successful for Ubisoft, as it sold pretty well, at around 500.000 units, in what has been quite an unsuccessful month for the video-game industry.
