Scarlett Johansson is pregnant with her first child, and according to rumors online, she broke the news to her colleagues on “Avengers: Age of Ultron” just as shooting was supposed to kick off, in March. For months, there’s been a lot of speculation on how her unexpected pregnancy derailed the production, but director Joss Whedon insists that’s not the case.

The current issue of Entertainment Weekly is dedicated to San Diego Comic-Con 2014 and the second “Avengers” film, which arrives in theaters on May 1, 2015.

Whedon explains that Scarlett’s pregnancy didn’t stop her from shooting her scenes as Black Widow, except for the fact that some alterations had to be done to the costume as the baby bump became more visible and more caution was necessary when it came to shooting her, with Whedon favoring shots from the breasts up.

However, the more important part is that Scarlett was no longer in a position to do her own stunts, so she had 3 body doubles to do all the hard work. Her face will be pasted onto their body in post-production with CGI.

I assume that Scarlett’s shooting schedule also changed and she was called first, to finish her scenes before she started showing.

Chris Evans, who plays Steve Rogers / Captain America, says that having all those Scarletts on set was fun, if a bit confusing.

“It’s always funny. You walk by, ‘Hey Scarlett – oh, weird. You’re not Scarlett at all. Sorry.’ A lot of fake Scarletts around,” he tells EW. Yahoo! Movies has photos of all those fake Scarletts standing in for the real one.
