Earlier this year, Thomas Beatie, known around the world as “Pregnant Man” since 2008, obtained a restraining order against his ex-wife Nancy, telling a judge that he lived in absolute fear of her because she wouldn’t stop stalking and threatening him.

As it turns out, Nancy wasn’t the only one doing the stalking.

Beatie has been arrested (and is still in custody at the time of writing) for felony stalking, after cops found a GPS on the car of his ex, who might or might not be Nancy. TMZ reports that Beatie owned up to putting it there a while back.

Beatie is a confirmed stalker

As per the report, Beatie put the GPS on the woman’s car a couple of years ago, which he owned up to the cops when they asked him. He also revealed he’d changed the battery on the device several times during this period, so he seems to have been really committed to his stalking practices.

Beatie is now in custody at the Maricopa County Jail, after the Phoenix PD picked him up following a complaint by the woman. He admitted to putting the GPS there and is now held without bail, facing a felony charge.

The celebrity publication tried to get ahold of Beatie’s ex-wife Nancy to see if she was the woman in question or if that was a woman he dated after the bitter split. So far, no word on her identity.

Rise to fame and controversy

Beatie got famous in 2008, when he became the world’s first “pregnant man.” He was born a woman and started transition when he was young, but when he and then-partner Nancy found out Nancy couldn’t have children, he decided to put gender reassignment surgery off for a while until they had their dream family.

In other words, though legally a man, Beatie still had female reproductive organs, which allowed him to have 3 children with Nancy. When he first appeared on Oprah looking exactly like you’d imagine a man would look if he got pregnant, he became the target of a lot of negativity, especially in the online realm.

It wasn’t all bad though: Beatie also received a lot of support, perhaps more than criticism, if there was a way to quantify and compare both. He also became a spokesperson for the LGBT community, in that his example brought attention to various issues transgender people were dealing with.

Bitter split and even more bitter divorce

For a few years, Thomas and Nancy seemed to have found happiness together: they were married (though the court never recognized the legality of the union, so he was refused the divorce, on the basis that the marriage never happened), they had children, and they had managed to overcome most prejudices about their apparently extraordinary life.

Then, in 2012, things took a turn for the worse: footage emerged of Nancy being physically aggressive to Thomas in front of the kids, along with reports that he had been subject of abuse for the better part of their relationship.

They split and the “divorce” became a classic case of he said – she said, with both sides throwing mud at the other in an attempt to chip away at their credibility in court. In the end, it was Nancy who was more or less kicked out of the family home and denied custody of the kids: since the legality of the marriage wasn’t recognized, the kids were put in the sole charge of the mother, meaning here the person who had given birth to them.

By that time, though, Beatie had undergone gender reassignment and was a man in all senses of the word.

Then, earlier this year, he told the court that he was still living in fear of his ex-wife, who wouldn’t stop stalking and threatening him. If Nancy is the woman on whose car the GPS was found, it seems that stalking goes both ways with these bitter exes.
