Patricia Wexler has made a name for herself as a dermatologist - her New York City practice specializes in dermatology and dermatological surgery - as well as a skincare guru. With her no-prescription-necessary skin care line (which has hit the shelves at Bath & Body Works) she has played a double wild card - quality and an accessible price - which has gained her an impressive number of fans all over the States.
Her words of advice on skin care have been featured in the vast majority of beauty magazines available in the States and she is an outspoken advocate of wearing sunscreen and preventing sun damage as early as possible. Here are some of her summer beauty tips, as featured in a recent interview she gave to the 15 Minute Beauty Fanatic website.
If we are in our twenties, Wexler recommends integrating at least one anti-aging product in our beauty routine, in order to fight the freckling, pigmentation and fine lines we already have due to previous sun exposure. A good daily skincare routine includes a gentle exfoliating face gel and an anti-aging moisturizer with SPF 30, to help prevent the development of wrinkles and stop any further damage from occurring to collagen and elastic tissue.
If we're slightly older, we may have to fight the increasingly visible lines around our eyes and on our forehead caused by anything from stress to hormone manipulation. The best things to do are to avoid smoking at all costs and wear oversize sunglasses with built-in UVA and UVB protection in order to avoid any more damage from affecting the delicate area around our eyes.
Also, Dr Wexler advises us to use antibacterial but not drying solutions and incorporate an adult acne regimen into our daily anti-aging routine, as well as use products that contain peptides for immediate relaxation of lines, which also promote long-term collagen and elastic stimulation. Finally, for sun damaged skin another solution is using skin brightening moisturizers with peptides like Haloxyl and other botanical brighteners. And remember: SPF protection is essential at all times.
