PreFab Event Taps Testbench is a Mac utility aimed at software developers. The free application is used to test apps with Quartz Event Taps, and, as of now, the software includes complete support for tablet proximity and pointer events, like examples of tablet event modification on the fly.

Developers install event taps (Core Graphics objects) in the system to monitor and respond to user input to any application from keyboard or mouse to scroll wheel or tablet pointer. PreFab's application helps devs configure and install as many event taps as they wish, while monitoring the user input events that trigger them in real time. Additionally, users can now configure how the event taps respond to user input. This can be achieved either by performing the example actions provided, or by modifying user input before the events are posted to their targets.

The latest version of PreFab Event Taps Testbench adds a slew of enhancements, including complete support for tablet proximity and pointer events (examples of tablet event modification on the fly too); a new Current Event window where you can examine the most recent event in real time in an easy-to-read layout showing all available event information at a glance (the developers note that the old Events window is still available as the Event History window, showing a configurable number of recent events in text format); user interface layout changes making it easier to use and understand; an updated Help Book in the Help menu and many bug fixes.

Other tweaks now allow users to make Event Taps Testbench a trusted accessibility process without turning on global access for assistive devices. Still, users can do that, if they want to, without opening System Preferences, in version 1.1, while tapping events targeted at a named application (such as the Dock) is also possible now.

PreFab Event Taps Testbench 1.1 also includes additional event modification examples, but also some updated examples that now "work correctly on Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)," PreFab claims.

Lastly, the PFEventTaps framework is now installed separately as a shared framework in /Library/Frameworks, where it can be used by any developer.
