Microsoft made available for testing the pre-release version of the next version of its cloud-based management solution Windows Intune.

Brad Anderson, corporate vice president of Microsoft’s Management and Security Division, provided a glimpse at the next release of Windows Intune at the Microsoft Management Summit in Las Vegas, yet no official release date for it was made official.

Through the use of this cloud-based management solution, organizations can keep their PCs up-to-date and secure from anywhere, courtesy of tools, reports and an upgrade license to the latest version of Windows included with the service.

The next version of the solution promises expanded management and security benefits to mobile devices, along with people centric management capabilities.

“We focused on these areas of development for the next release because customers have been telling us that device proliferation is one of the most pressing challenges they’re facing in their business, and we saw an opportunity to help with Windows Intune,” Microsoft’s Eric Main notes in a blog post.

Through these new features, Microsoft aims at providing cost savings and simpler management through covering both mobile devices and PCs with the same solution.

The goal is to manage and secure mobile devices without increasing costs and by maintaining simplicity. Thus, the company will keep the same at $11 USD per PC / month price of Windows Intune as before, while adding the option to manage up to four mobile devices per seat.

Additionally, Microsoft notes that it will follow with the cloud solution the same goals as it does with Windows, namely a great experience and enterprise grade solutions that organizations need.

“The next release of Windows Intune will do just that – it will help solve the consumerization challenge that businesses are facing today, and because Windows Intune is cloud-based, partners and customers get to take advantage of innovations as soon as they’re available,” Eric Main continues.

“We hope you’ll take a look at these new features in Windows Intune and consider how they can help you in your business. For those of you interested, we’re offering a limited opportunity to try out some key features coming in the next release, including the self-service Company Portal.”

Those who would like to learn more on the next Windows Intune version should have a look at the release notes that Microsoft made available on its website.

Customers can give the current version of Windows Intune a try via the free 30 day trial that Microsoft is offering. Those who already purchased the service will receive updates to the new version when it is released.
