If you live in the United States, Canada or Mexico and you plan on pre-ordering Far Cry 2 then it's about time to rejoice. Upon ordering you will be able to also get and then play the original game, which Ubisoft holds the rights to.

The original Far Cry After puts the player in the shoes of Jack Carver, a seasoned mercenary who guides a snooping reporter to a remote chain of tropical islands, as she pursues a story. He quickly finds himself alone in what appears to be paradise, if not for the armed and dangerous men. The highly trained mercenaries seem to be protecting something important and the hero fights them and follows the trail of the missing journalist.

The game was very innovative at the time because it managed to offer an open world where you could truly choose where to go next and how to approach a situation, but it was also noted due to the visual quality and steep system requirements. If you have not played Far Cry when it launched, it's a good idea to pre-order the sequel and get the first game for free.

Far Cry 2 takes the player on a new adventure, this time to Africa. The game simulates a stretch of land more than 50 square kilometers big where two rival factions are engaged in a bloody conflict. As a gun for hire the main character gets sent to take out the man who instigated the conflict. Far Cry 2 claims to take the open world concept one step further with a lot of tactical flexibility and with a world that truly responds to the player’s actions.

Early demonstrations made by Ubisoft showed a really intense game, with stunning looks and interesting action. We'll have to wait ‘till launch to see how it holds up in a field where Crysis, made by Crytek, has set the standard for open world action.
