Currently in Alpha, Pownce 2.0 (desktop) is still a bit buggy

Users of the Pownce free desktop application should find it extremely exciting that an update is now available for them. And that's not all: an iPhone version of the Pownce application has also been released. The latter is currently available for download via the iTunes App Store.

"We're very excited to announce the new official Pownce iPhone/iPod Touch app," says Ariel, Pownce Community Manager. "The Pownce iPhone/iPod touch app lets you get all the latest notes from your friends right away on your mobile device. You can also send messages, links, events and photos." Best of all, Ariel reveals, is that the new Pownce iPhone app enables users to instantly take a photo with their devices and send it to all their friends. So you're getting everything you have with the desktop version on your handheld device, and more.

Currently in Alpha, Pownce desktop 2.0 is "a massive upgrade" to the desktop software, Ariel notes, having been rebuilt from scratch to add a ton of new features including:

- Embedded media: Images, videos, audio files, and now Digg stories will appear inline! - Favorite notes: Click the heart icon to bookmark a note. - Notification alerts: Get notified of new notes with audio alerts.

Using Pownce is easy and enjoyable: you just add a file and all of your friends will get it right away. They'll be able to reply too. The desktop software makes it even faster to read and send notes to your friends, according to the makers.

To use Pownce on your Mac, you'll need to download Adobe's AIR (if you don't have it already). AIR applications are not installed in your main Applications directory by default, like most other programs. You'll need to open Finder and go to your home directory then Applications.

Since the application is currently in 'Alpha', there are some bugs that need to be ironed out. The developing team will have it ready for a stable release in no time if you report a bug when you see one. "We also have more functionality that we want to build into the app, but we figured this was a good time to send the software out into the real world and get your feedback to help developing it further," Ariel adds.

Visit the App Store to get the mobile version of Pownce.
