LiVES 2.2.6, a simple-to-use, powerful video editor and VJ tool that allows users to combine real time and rendered effects, streams, and multiple video/audio files, has been released.

LiVES is an application that can help users start editing and making videos without having to worry about formats, frame sizes, or framerates. This sort of software will cost users a lot of money on other platforms, but on Linux you get it for free.

“ LiVES is aimed at the digital video artist who wants to create their own content, the video editor who wants to create professional looking video, and the VJ who wants to captivate with spectacular images. LiVES lets you start editing and making video right away, without having to worry about formats, frame sizes, or framerates. LiVES will let you start creating your own tools, utilities and effects via the built in RFX builder,” reads the official website.

The application is compatible with all the open source platforms, including Linux, BSD, openMosix, IRIX, OSX/Darwin, and more. It will also run on pretty much all types of architectures, like x86, amd64, x86_64, i64, sparc, hppa, ppc, and xbox/x86.

According to the changelog, a startup bug (regression) that was creating the config file incorrectly has been fixed, a number of Libav compatibility fixes have been implemented, a warning is now shown when the application is configured with GTK+ 3.10.x, support has been added for freenect camera, and some minor code cleanups.
