Most computer accessories usually have something to do with peripherals or plugs and cables, if not with adding an overall impression of style to a certain machine. Still, once in a while, a certain hardware maker will come up with something less ordinary, even if the idea of its new product isn't exactly easy to come by. For instance, PowerColor has just unveiled a certain device that, as odd as it may sound, is meant to keep graphics cards stable.
The stability addressed in the case is not the electrical stability, the one that is tested during overclocking or other operations. Instead, PowerColor's so-called PowerJack seeks to simply make sure that the video board is perfectly set inside the PCI Express slot. Normally, the controller is just pushed inside the slot and immobilized, to some extend, by means of a screw. This method, however, isn't guaranteed to keep the larger high-end cards firmly in place. To remedy this issue, the PowerJack supports the weight of the card from the back and extends from 61.25 mm up to 150mm.
“The company is full of gamers and modders, so it’s no surprise that we discovered a need for a product like the PowerJack,” says Ted Chen, CEO of TUL Corporation. “High performance cards are not going to get any smaller, so we saw a need to bring this to market, where we know it will be fully utilized.”
Obviosuly, PowerColor was quick in setting up a special product page on its official website. There, it describes its creation and shows how it should be used and in what situations. It even made a video demonstration that enthusiasts can watch for themselves by visiting said
page. Unfortunately, the actual price point of the PowerJack has not been made public as of yet. Still, considering that availability will ramp up on July 15, this mystery shouldn't endure much longer.
