Knowing of the price issues associated with Eyefinity setups, and the fact that the necessity for displays with distinct input options can limit one's choice when buying suitable monitors, PowerColor decided to create and release an adapter that transforms a DisplayPort into a single-link DVI.

The ATI Eyefinity technology is a feature that allows a single graphics card to spread the display area over three monitors.

This feature is meant to increase immersion while gaming, and is a capability present in many models from AMD's HD 5000 Series of video cards.

The so-called limitation that the technology has, however, is that the three monitors required must each be equipped with a different input port.

Displays with DVI and HDMI connectors are fairly common nowadays, but solutions with DispayPort support are not as widespread.

To make it so that two or three DVI-enabled displays can be used, even in absence of this DisplayPort, PowerColor unleashed the Active DisplayPort to Single-Link DVI-D Adapter.

Essentially a converter, this adapter can act as a bridge between these two connections, making Eyefinity triple-display setups far easier to implement.

The maximum resolution this adapter supports is 1,920 x 1,200 pixels, and the product is also compliant with HDCP and DPCP.

Basically, this small cable will vastly increase the affordability of triple-monitor scenarios, making it so that they are no longer confined to the upper-most level of the market.

Unfortunately, pricing details have not been disclosed, but the financial requirements of this small cable will hardly be worthy of note compared to those implied by the three displays themselves.

“Through the PowerColor Active DisplayPort to Single-Link DVI-D adaptor, gamers can take advantage of the latest Eyefinity technology without a DisplayPort monitor, easily optimizing their entertained experience and productivity through 3 DVI monitors without any software to install,” states the official press release.

The new invention has already been added to the company's website, the product page, along with all possible information, being located here.
