While NVIDIA seems to have the 3D field firmly in its grasp, AMD is leading in the area of display scalability. The Eyefinity technology has been selling, as part of DirectX 11 cards, for several months. Now, AMD raised the bar somewhat by releasing its first Eyefinity 6 Version and, much in the same way NVIDIA's partners released GTX 400 cards one after another, AMD's partners are launching their respective versions of the Radeon HD 5870 Eyefinity 6 Edition. With Sapphire's model already out, PowerColor won't fall behind and, thus, has unveiled its own six-headed monster.

Like all cards from the HD 5000 series, the adapter has full support for DirectX 11, ATI Stream technology and CrossFireX, among other things, and has the graphics processing unit running at 850MHz. In addition, the 2GB of GDDR5 VRAM are clocked at 4,800MHz and have a memory interface of 256 bits. These specifications are similar to those of the reference model, as is the output. Like all Eyefintiy 6 Edition cards, PowerColor's offering has six mini Displayport outputs, which enables the now-infamous multi-display scenarios of up to six monitors.

“The HD5870 Eyefinity 6 supports the DirectX 11, ready to tackle all the latest game titles and enable a lifelike gaming experience. Compatible with ATI Stream technology, the card enables demanding data parallel compute tasks from the CPU to GPU, accelerating daily applications in less time and with minimal effort,” the press release states.

"AMD and PowerColor always lead the trend and provide cutting-edge technology you’ve never seen before," Ted Chen, CEO of TUL Corporation, says. "With the support of multi-display technology, gamers can easily take advantage of this unique feature to get lost in games and movies."

Already available for pre-order in Europe, the card is listed with a price tag of 500 Euro.
