What appears to be the first reference to a malware destined for the Windows Phone platform has been recently discovered in a set of tools called FinFisher, which comes from a company called Gamma Group and which is used for surveillance purposes.

One of the tools included in the suite, called FinSpy Mobile, was destined for a variety of mobile platforms, including Android, BlackBerry, iOS, and Windows Phone, allowing for the interception of all communications from the infected device.

According to F-Secure, this is the first time such a tool is specifically said to come with support for Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system.

F-Secure also published shots of a presentation of the FinFisher suite, which details the specific use of FinSpy Mobile, among others.

Apparently, the malware can offer recording of all incoming and outgoing emails, location tracking, live surveillance through silent calls, and interception of all basic communications, including calls, SMS / MMS, call logs, and the like.
