A new mobile phone coming from Motorola has been spotted at the Federal Communication Commission, and chances are that it might be the sequel to one of the popular smartphones the company has on sale in the US via Verizon, namely the Motorola DROID X 2.

The new device sports the model number IHDT56MJ1, yet other details on it are not available at the moment.

Apparently, Motorola asked FCC to maintain confidentiality on this device, which makes it rather difficult to figure out which mobile phone this could be.

However, some of the specs that the Commission did unveil on it hint at the possibility that it would be the said Motorola DROID X 2 smartphone.

Apparently, the handset comes with a naming convention that is in line with what was seen with newer Motorola smartphones, including the ATRIX 4G, which may suggest similar capabilities.

Moreover, the available FCC documents point at CDMA, EVDO, and 802.11n Wi-Fi connectivity options on this device, which would make it fit for Verizon Wireless' network.

Since the mobile phone emerged at FCC with a 180-day short-term confidentiality request next to it, we might expect for Motorola to make it available for purchase sometime in early summer, which would be one year after the launch of the original DROID X.

As stated above, no official info on the new mobile phone was unveiled for the time being, but there is a great possibility that it would indeed prove to be the said DROID X 2 device.

The specification list of the upcoming smartphone remains a mystery too, though it seems that a dual-core processor, along with support for the carrier's 4G LTE network, and similar design as the original device would be a good guess at the moment.

Whilte taking this with a grain of salt for now, we'll wait for more details on the matter to surface, since the DROID X sequel did emerge into the wild before.
