We all remember the Metal Slug games. We played the first ones in an arcade, wasting hours at a Neo Geo machine, and later on various consoles like the PlayStation 1 and 2 or on handhelds such as the Nintendo DS or the PlayStation Portable. The fun factor of the classic side scrolling run and gun game was immense. The variety of weapons and hordes of enemies which were never ending provided hours of excitement and action. With the revival of classic games on an ascending trend, like Street Fighter IV or Mega Man 9, SNK Playmore have recently announced that they are definitely looking into an HD revival of the classic game.

Good and fresh ideas don't come around that often so companies such as SNK are forced to rely on old franchises. They make a guaranteed profit with the die hard fans, who will buy anything as long as it has their favorite game's logo on it. Such is the case with the classic King of Fighters franchise which will see its twelfth game released this month. So why not use the knowledge gained with the porting of this game to HD and revive another franchise with the best candidate in the current SNK lineup being Metal Slug.

“In order to meet our fans demands for an HD version of Metal Slug, we're considering bringing this series to the new generation of consoles in a similar way to KOF XII. We look forward to announcing this someday soon”, said SNK Playmore in a recent interview. It would definitely be a good thing to bring back the fun side scrolling game. The next King of Fighters looks pretty nice and let's hope SNK will bring all the good stuff about the MS franchise and won't disappoint us with another Metal Slug 3D.
