Is your ASUS VivoTab Note 8 pen not working properly?

ASUS’ VivoTab Note 8 is one of the company’s most popular tablets and this is probably due to the fact that the tablet takes advantage of a Wacom Stylus.

However, a few months after the tablet was released, we saw a vast majority of VivoTab Note 8 owners starting to complain that their beloved pen stopped working for no apparent good reason.

Since then, ASUS has yet failed to provide a permanent fix for the problem, but several workarounds have been identified.

However, the fixes don’t work for all users, so the community has continued to struggle to find a way to solve this problem for good on its own.

Try this DIY fix at your own risk

Now one of our readers has notified us that he found a possible DIY workaround for this problem. But keep in mind that, if you choose to do this, you’ll most likely void your warranty and possibly cause some serious harm to your tablet.

Anyway, if you decide to go ahead with it at your own risk, keep reading. Our reader explains that the problem might be caused by a cable living inside the tablet.

To access it, you will need to remove the back cover, which you’ll find is quite easy to be taken off. Once you do this, you should find two kinked cables that are visible on the inside – one on the left and one on the right side, if you are holding the tablet in vertical position.

What the problem appears to be is that these cables are kinked too hard, which leads to signal break. So what you will need to do is straighten the cable on the left (the one which looks thinner) and then disable-enable the tablet in device manager.

We stress once again, make sure the cable is not kinked hard when you put the back cover back on. After this, your pen should be coming back to life once again.

You should also be quite attentive at what device you disable/enable, because you might end up disabling touch input instead, by mistake. If that happens, the only alternative to get things back on track is to connect a mouse with OTG USB adapter and enable touch device again.

ASUS has a VivoTab tablet alternative without pen input

Anyway, if you’re sick of Wacom pen drama, you should know ASUS has just launched the new VivoTab 8 which is quite similar to the Note model, except it lacks the smart pen. And of course, it will sell for a cheaper price.
