A Chicago suburb became the scene of a violent attack this weekend, when a 28-year-old man went to his ex-girlfriend’s house and shot her and her current boyfriend. A video report of the incident, from ABC Local, is available above.

Earlier in the day, the 28-year-old man had attacked the couple with a screwdriver, police say. They were returning home from the hospital when he attacked again, this time determined to kill them both.

He shot his ex in the abdomen and her boyfriend in the head. The latter died on the spot but the woman tried to drive herself to the hospital, despite the injury. She didn’t make it there but medics got to her in time, and she is now believed to be ok.

The attacker was shot and killed by police as he was trying to make his escape in his car. A police officer was also injured in the exchange, with reports saying at least another person might have been hurt.

The investigation is underway.
