14 DAY TRIAL // The beautiful Portia de Rossi is revealed to have spent a full month in rehab earlier this year in secret, for what is now believed to be substance abuse. The wife of the famous talk show host Ellen DeGeneres has been battling with other issue throughout her life, including an eating disorder.
Portia, who is a star on the television show Arrested Development, stayed 30 days in May of this year at the Passages Malibu rehab facility, according to a report by InTouch. The magazine claims to have gotten the information from an anonymous source from the facility.
The source describes how the 41 year-old actress was visited by her loving partner, Ellen, throughout her month-long ordeal. The talk show host is said to have visited Portia every weekend, in an effort to provide support.
The report fails to address the motive as to why exactly Portia checked herself in rehab, but Page Six has spoken with an admission counselor at the same facility, and the only conclusion is that “the primary issue has to be a substance abuse issue, because that’s what we’re licensed as.”
Portia had previously visited a rehab facility looking for professional help. The actress is confirmed to have sought treatment for an eating disorder back in 2000 when her weight dropped to dangerous figures.
InTouch speculates that de Rossi was driven to drugs and alcohol by an “ugly spat” with wife Ellen DeGeneres. One insider has told the magazine that “Portia hadn't been happy for a while and was drinking and isolating (herself), and Ellen confronted her. Portia lost it and blamed Ellen for driving her to drink because of her controlling ways and said she wasn't in love with her anymore. Ellen was crushed and screamed at Portia to get out.”
This isn't the first time that rumors the marriage between the two famous women is crumbling, mostly because of Ellen's dominating habits, “[Portia] felt like a prisoner in her own home. She went from sipping white wine occasionally to drinking at least a bottle or more a day and topping it off with a pill. It got to the point where she was out of it four nights a week. They've had vicious shouting matches -- with both of them yelling cruel, soul-crushing put-downs that they both deeply regretted.”
While the report of Portia attending rehab holds some truth to it, the part about the bitter fights with Ellen DeGeneres could be just some filler material put in by the tabloid just to make their story more scandalous.
