Porteus Kiosk Edition, a portable Linux operating system based on the Linux Live Scripts, has just been updated to version 3.3.0.

The Kiosk Edition of Porteus is based on Gentoo and that's not exactly the first choice when you come to think of it. There are few operating systems that choose Gentoo as their base. It's a great system, but it requires more experience from developers.

It's been quite a while since the previous update for Porteus has arrived and it looks like the developers have used that time to make important changes to the distribution, which even includes new features. This development cycle proved to be quite exciting and the upgrade to the operating systems is a welcomed one.

Porteus Kiosk Edition 3.3.0 is a big update

Many of the components have been updated and the devs have included the Linux kernel in this list. That means that the Linux kernel has been updated to version 3.18.8. The Firefox browser remains at the latest ESR version (extended support version), which is 31.5.0.

"I'm happy to announce Porteus Kiosk 3.3.0 which is now available for download. This is a major kiosk release which brings a number of new features, package upgrades and security fixes. New version sums all the development which happened in the last 3 months and which can be tracked with details in the changelog of the Porteus Kiosk 'automatic updates' service," the devs said.

The Kiosk edition is a different type of Linux distribution and it's not really aimed at regular users. It's built for devices that are usually employed by multiple users and it's made in such a way that it's virtually impossible to break.

A complete list of changes can be found in the official announcement. You can download Porteus 3.3.0 (Kiosk Edition) right now from Softpedia.
