Portal 2 Picks Up the Ultimate Game of the Year Awards at the Golden Joysticks

The 29th edition of the GamesMasters Golden Joysticks Awards has taken place in London and the big winner of the night was Portal 2, the first person puzzle and platformer created by Valve, which picked up the Alienware sponsored Ultimate Game of the Year prize.

The awards are voted on by the gaming public and managed to break the Guinness World Record for most votes cast during a gaming award process, with more than 2.06 million people delivering their opinion on the best video game of the last 12 months.

The ceremony also looked at the coming video games, with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim from Bethesda set to be the most anticipated new release and a serious candidate for the awards next year.

Action/Adventure Game of the Year – Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood from Ubisoft
Mobile Game of the Year – Angry Birds Rio from Chillingo
Roleplay Game of the Year – Fallout New Vegas from Bethesda Softworks
Massively Multiplayer Online Game of the Year – World of Warcraft from Blizzard Entertainment
Fighting Game of the Year – Mortal Kombat from Warner Bros. Interactive
Racing Game of the Year - Gran Turismo 5 from Sony Computer Entertainment
Sports Game of the Year - FIFA 11 from EA Sports
Strategy Game of the Year – Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty from Blizzard Entertainment
Music Game of the Year – Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock from Activision
Free-To-Play Game of the Year – League of Legends from Riot Games
Downloadable Game of the Year – Minecraft from Mojang
Shooter Game of the Year – Call of Duty: Black Ops from Activision
One To Watch Award – Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim from Bethesda Softworks
Innovation of the Year – Nintendo 3DS
Outstanding Contribution – Sonic The Hedgehog from Sega
Ultimate Game of the Year – Portal 2 from Valve Corporation
