Valve and EA have finally confirmed an official release date for Portal 2, one of the most expected titles of the next year.

According to Valve, the game will be published by EA through its special EA Partners program, on April 21, 2011, for the PC, Mac, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

"Portal 2 is Valve's most innovative title in the company's history and will be launched with a first-class launch campaign this April," said Doug Lombardi, vice president of marketing at Valve.

"We're excited to be working with Electronic Arts to deliver this title as we expand our platform strategy to include the Mac and PlayStation 3 platforms."

Portal 2 is the sequel to the massively popular and influential Portal, which was released as an experiment by Valve in its special Orange Box, alongside Half Life 2 Episode 2 and Team Fortress 2.

The game will expand on the events of the original title, and add a special co-operative mode that will portray two special robots, instead of the lone test subject in the single-player one.

The game will have new and more intricate puzzle chambers, which will require lots of strategy skills to overcome and reach the eventual confrontation with GLaDOS, the rogue computer that is the mastermind behind the whole experiment.

Portal 2 was even named the most anticipated game of 2011 during this month's Spike TV Video Game Awards.

Valve announced a delay a few weeks ago, but it wasn't as serious as anyone expected, with the game being pushed back from the initial February period to April.

The company, at that time, noted jokingly that it is "the shortest delay in Valve's proud tradition of delays."

Hopefully, the company and EA will be able to keep this new promise and deliver Portal 2 on all the aforementioned platforms on April 21.
