These units supposedly fold into shipping containers, take a few hours to install

Researchers working with the Uprise Energy in San Diego claim that, thanks to a new technology they are presently busy working on, people around the world will soon be able to purchase portable wind turbines.

In other words, a family could potentially purchase one such unit, use it to power their home and also go on vacations with it.

Apparently, the Portable Power Center will be able to fold into a shipping container and, from that moment on, attaching it to a vehicle of one's choice and traveling with it would be a rather easy thing to do.

Interestingly enough, the people behind this project claim that this 50kW wind turbine will be designed and manufactured in a manner which allows your average Joe/Jane to have it installed in just a few hours.

Tree Hugger informs us that the electricity generated by these wind turbines can either be used immediately, or stored for later.

Moreover, the unit will be “smart” enough to make the most out of whatever wind power it has at its disposal, and will also keep itself out of harm's way.

“Through intelligent programming, the machine is constantly monitoring weather patterns and adjusting itself to best capture energy from the wind. The machine rotates 360º to face the wind and adjust blade pitch and speed for optimum capture,” Uprise says.

Furthermore, “When the wind is too strong, the computer automatically parks the rotor and lays the mast down to avoid damage.”

For the time being, no such Portable Power Centers have actually been manufactured, and it may take some time before Uprise Energy actually succeeds in coming up with a working prototype.

However, the idea is noteworthy, to say the least.
