Rumor has it that the most surprising of things can be found in a woman's purse. Should the folks at Skajaquoda, a research group based in Minnesota, US, have their way, it might be only a matter of time until a wind turbine is among these things.

Tree Hugger informs that these brainiacs have developed a portable wind turbine, pictured above, that they say is small enough to fit in an average bag, and that is also surprisingly lightweight.

More precisely, Skajaquoda says that its Trinity wind turbine measures just 12 inches (a little over 30 centimeters) when folded, and that it weighs merely 4 pounds (roughly 1.8 kilograms).

The turbine, also referred to as a Portable Wind Turbine Power Station, comprises three blades, a body onto which these are fitted, and three aluminum legs that expand to become a tripod.

The research group further details that its energy generating capacity is one of 15W, and that whatever clean power this portable wind turbine produces is fed into a 15,000mAh battery. This power can then be used to charge gadgets.

Skajaquoda's Trinity wind turbine has not yet hit the market. On the contrary, the research group is just now trying to raise funds to complete work on the final prototype and debut the manufacturing process.

To this end, they folks behind this project have launched a fundraising campaign on Kickstarter. The campaign runs until this coming June 1 and aims to raise $50,000 (€36,199).
