Called Neutrino, it writes data at up to 450 MB/s when housing an SSD

Akitio advertises its newest product, the “Neutrino Thunderbolt Edition,” as a one-bay, portable Thunderbolt storage device, but that's really just a fancy way of saying drive enclosure.

Basically, the Neutrino takes an SSD and allows it to communicate with MacBook systems and Thunderbolt-equipped laptop at speeds of up to 465 MB/s (an HD film is copied from a system in under 30 seconds).

We see no reason why HDDs wouldn't be supported, but Akitio does have a point in implying that it isn't worth pairing an HDD with Neutrino, since magnetic drives, as they are today, can't even come close to taking advantage of the 10 Gbps transfer rate of Thunderbolt.

That said, the Akitio Neutrino Thunderbolt Edition ships with an Intel 330 Series SSD of 120 GB, all for $299.9 / 180 Euro.
