Secure USB flash drives may not be overly widespread on today's market, but they definitely pull their own weight in the hands of business users or anyone who wants to keep their files safe and sound, and Aleratec just delivered one such device.

Secure flash drives can be either physically enduring, equipped with software-based or hardware-level data protection features, or both.

The new product that Aleratec developed is known as PortaStor and belongs to the second of the above types, so to speak.

While its casing, measuring 60 x 46 x 9.5 mm (3/8 x 1 13/16 x 3/8 inches) isn't built to withstand hazards, the product does have encryption.

More specifically, 256-bit AES hardware Encryption exists and can store confidential files on a secure partition.

Needless to say, password input is needed when trying to access the files. In fact, the data in that secure area will be automatically deleted (the partition will be formatted) after six invalid login attempts.

Granted, malicious people will be able to get the files to be erased if they really want to attempt sabotage this way, but it stands to reason that just one flash device would not be the only place where said information is stored.

Regardless, four storage options are available, those being 2 GB, 4 GB, 8 GB and 16 GB, respectively, while prices go from $40.99 to $75.99.

“Whether it’s confidential government documents or personal financial information, most of our customers work regularly with sensitive data files,” said Perry Solomon, President and CEO.

“The PortaStor Secure line of USB flash drives gives them the ability to protect their information, while maintaining all of the convenience and features of a typical USB flash drive.”

Users that want to buy one of these newcomers need only drop by this page, which also has all information on the specifications, and place their order.
