LaCie's new external
HDDs come in four different flavors (160 GB, 250 GB, 320 GB and 500 GB) and the company's Senior Product Manager Oliver Mirloup claims that these are the largest capacities available at a low price per gigabyte. Apart from boosting up capacities and cutting up prices, LaCie collaborated with the renowned agency Porsche Design GmbH to come up with "sleek-looking" HDD enclosures. In fact, the new line resembles brushed-metal bricks with no catchy design features at all. It seems that LaCie likes it simple and Porsche had to design some boring-looking enclosure, not what we would normally expect from industry leading designers though.

The official LaCie specs are:

160-500 GB storage space
Lightweight
Plug-and-Play ready
1-Click Back-up Software for PC/Mac
USB or Firewire interface

The new line-up is Windows, Mac OS and Linux compatible and it is priced as follows:

USB 160 GB $99 (Firewire $119)
USB 250 GB $129 (Firewire $139)
USB 320 GB $159 (Firewire $189)
USB 500 GB $249 (Firewire $279)
