RIM’s Porsche Design P'9981 BlackBerry is now available for pre-order in the United States featuring a price tag of no less than $1,700 (around 1,300 Euros).

The new device was made official back in October, but hasn’t arrived on shelves as of yet. However, it should be released in the UK in January, while being expected to reach the United States market at the end of February.

According to the latest reports on the matter, the Porsche Design P'9981 BlackBerry is now available for pre-order at various retailers in the United States.

An article on berryfication notes that licensed retailers in the country are now accepting pre-orders for the device. At least one Porsche Design store is accepting reservations for the smartphone, and has also confirmed the said price tag.

The specifically crafted handset will certainly appeal a lot to those who like sport cars, though other users might appreciate it as well.

As one can easily imagine, the main selling point of this device is indeed its outer design, complemented by a series of icons, widgets and the like and a custom Porsche UI. A specially designed Wikitude augmented reality browser was included into the mix as well.

The smartphone is powered by RIM’s BlackBerry OS 7 (with support for all of the applications and services associated with it), while featuring a 1.2GHz application processor inside, complemented by 768MB of RAM.

The specifications list of this device also includes 8GB of internal memory, complemented by a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

On the back, the new device sports a five-megapixel photo snapper that can offer video recording capabilities.

RIM’s Porsche Design P'9981 BlackBerry also comes with NFC features packed inside, as well as with the usual connectivity capabilities, including 3G, WiFi, and Bluetooth.
