Porn Has One Up On Arnold

What do you normally expect to find when you surf to a government website? Well, I for one, hope to find official statements, news about initiatives, things that concern a certain country and a lot of info on politics. I guess that everyone would expect to find the same things. Well, things are a bit different when talking about the Californian government.

If you wanted to visit their sites you would get redirected to pornographic web pages. This is not something out of the ordinary, as hackers have been using these tactics for a lot of time now, but it's surprising that they've succeeded into mocking a country like this - hacking government sites and redirecting users to porn pages!

However, things have not remained unattended for long - the Federal GSA took the matter into their own hands. As the LA Times earlier informed, a spokesman for Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger stated that federal regulators suspended the state's Internet and e-mail service, after the hack. Of course, this was just a measure to help fix the problem faster. Bottom line - Californian government websites have been suspended; however, that was just a temporary measure, as now, they are available again.

In a blog post, Sunbelt Software President, Alex Eckleberry wrote: "Despite all the hullabaloo, the now-infamous Marin County TAM website, responsible for a federal shutdown of ca.gov sites, is still not completely clean. While it's not redirecting to malware or porn anymore, it still has some dirt underneath the fingernails." This is just another case of problems caused by people not paying attention to what security experts have to say - how many more such issues will have to happen till they learn to be more careful?
