PopCap Games has launched Peggle HD for iPad with Game Center support, 29 achievements, and an in-app purchase option to get the complete Peggle Nights game, the developer has announced.

Peggle has been downloaded more than 30 million times since its introduction in March 2007.

The franchise has garnered more than a dozen awards from leading industry associations for combining elements of pinball, pool and pachinko to create a game experience unparalleled so far.

As avid fans of the game will tell you, Peggle requires both skill, and strategy, but also a great deal of luck

Players must clear progressively more difficult levels of orange pegs by firing a silver ball from the top of the screen.

Combining stationary and moving obstacles with numerous power-ups and special effects, as well as dynamically-assigned peg colors, every level feels like it’s the first time you’re playing it.

"We're bringing Peggle in all of its glory to mobile gamers everywhere with this fully optimized adaptation, exclusively for the iPad," noted Andrew Stein, director of mobile business development at PopCap.

"Peggle HD delivers riveting game action familiar to millions of fans of the original PC blockbuster, and is enhanced with Game Center achievements, like First Bjorn and Circus Daredevil, an in-app purchase option for Peggle Nights, as well as vibrant high-definition color and detail that offers the best of on-the-go entertainment to scores of iPad gamers," Stein added.

PopCap Games is selling Peggle HD for a special introductory price of $2.99 on Apple’s iTunes App Store. The in-app purchase option of Peggle Nights goes for one buck.

Peggle HD is compatible only with the Apple iPad (both the original iPad, and the second-generation tablet), and requires iOS 3.2 as the minimum firmware version. The HD version of Peggle is not supported on iPhone or iPod touch.
