Sony has dropped the Jedward brothers after just one single that failed miserably in UK singles charts. A collaboration with ‘90s rapper Vanilla Ice, “Under Pressure” not only failed to land number one but also slipped off the top 10 chart in one week, which prompted Sony to conclude the pop act had no future in music and ended the contract with them, the Times Online informs.

John and Edward Grimes, the 18-year-old twin brothers that caused a stir on the latest season of X Factor and who got the public opinion divided as to their merits, landed the contract with Sony after judge Simon Cowell openly refused to sign them with his SyCo label. However, after just one single, they’ve been pushed aside since the label realized there was no future to the partnership, it is being said.

“They defied Simon Cowell’s scorn to land a record deal, but it looks like Jedward’s pop career may finally be over, with Sony giving them the boot after just one single. John and Edward Grimes, the 18-year-old twins who stormed last year’s The X Factor with big blonde quiffs, matching novelty outfits and a distinct lack of singing talent, were signed by Sony in January,” Times informs.

“Their debut single, Under Pressure, featuring Nineties rapper Vanilla Ice, was beaten to No 1 last month by US band Owl City and dropped out of the top 10 a week later. Louis Walsh, the judge who mentored the twins on The X Factor and who now manages them, confirmed that they had been dropped by Sony,” the publication writes. “I’m completely committed to Jedward and I know they still have a great career ahead of them. I am in talks with a major record label about a new deal for them,” Walsh says.

One person that won’t be surprised about Jedward getting the boot from Sony, even though the termination of the contract in such a short time and after just one single must be a new record of some sort, is Simon Cowell, the same media outlet further points out. Before they were voted off X Factor, the music mogul promised he would leave the country if the twins won.
